Final Edits before Querying
Journeys to the Astral plane begin with a belief in the impossible. Hidden in alleys, murals, and everyday objects, invisible portals transport believers to the mystical plane. There they partake in local delights, such as tasting Aphrodite’s Kiss on Venus or tossing lightning with Astral Aries on Mars.
Alex Clarke maintains the portals, and she knows constant vigilance keeps secrets buried. A clean record has distracted from her past mistake, but when her sister shows up after a Martian Tonic gone awry, Alex is forced to break the ultimate Astral rule: never send someone to the plane with no way home.
Now Alex has two secrets to protect or she risks exile from the Astral plane. Fortunately she has never met a problem she can’t solve. Alex journeys to Mars to enlist the help of an infamous smuggler, and together they form a plan to break into Mercury’s Sphere of Information to eliminate proof of Alex’s wrongdoing.
But lack of evidence doesn’t erase history. Alex’s sister emerges as the final piece in a sinister plan to alter the flow between worlds forever. To save her sister, Alex must confront her darkest secret before the start of Lion’s Gate or risk losing the two things she loves most: her sister and the Astral plane.
ASTRAL, a multi-POV adult fantasy novel, will appeal to readers who read The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix Harrow and long to journey through more portals. Astral’s astrology-inspired magical realm is based in familiar places of our solar system, bringing an enchanting familiarity seen in stories like Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan.

Revising
Tucked in the heart of the sprawling East Coast city of Nexus is Spirel. Spirel’s reputation as the top consulting company in the US has suffered after two employees mysteriously died at the factory in Dellton, Pennsylvania.
One of those employees was Jeffrey Wilson’s father. Jeffrey has never loved Spirel and dislikes it even more when Bart Whitmore, the COO, appears after the funeral with a check for $15,000 and the company’s “deepest sympathies.” Jeffrey distrusts Bart’s intentions, and his suspicions are confirmed when sifting through a box of childhood memorabilia where his father hid a signed contract that placed him in a risky new program. The connection between Spirel and his father’s death is undeniable, but when Jeffrey removes the last item from the box, he’s forced to do something about it. Two golden cuffs slip onto his wrists as if by magic, and the note attached to them carries instructions from his dead birth mom: If there’s ever trouble, use the Aurumi. Return to Nexus, go to Spirel, and find the Shadow.
Meanwhile, Rhea Lumley, a resourceful researcher hunting for answers to her father’s disappearance, lands a job at Spirel’s headquarters. There she meets Jeffrey, who suspiciously has the exact same golden Aurumi on his wrists that her father wore before he disappeared.
Max Gaudin, a magic-hunter and semi-assassin, learns of a new Aurumi-wearer at Spirel, and sets her sights on converting Jeffrey Wilson to be her latest pawn in an attempt to escape her career and truly be free.
Rhea and Jeffrey race to find the Shadow and uncover why all magic leads back to Spirel. But when Bart releases a new plan to roll out the dangerous testing to 50 more factories, they are forced to rely on an unlikely ally: Max Gaudin. The trio rushes to expose the corruption and break the magical influence before Bart’s plan succeeds and leads to more deaths.
